Expert Riding Instruction in Singapore

Build Confidence and Skills with Gejero

Learning to ride requires more than just sitting in the saddle. At Gejero, we provide structured instruction that focuses on developing proper technique, understanding equine behavior, and building a genuine partnership between rider and horse. Our facility in Singapore offers comprehensive training programs designed for riders at every stage of their journey.

Whether you're taking your first lesson or refining advanced skills, our approach emphasizes safety, correct posture, and effective communication with your horse. Each session is tailored to your current abilities and goals, ensuring steady progress without rushing through fundamental concepts. We work with well-trained horses that match different experience levels, allowing you to learn in a supportive environment.

Our training covers essential areas including balance, rhythm, proper rein handling, and developing an independent seat. You'll learn to read your horse's body language, respond appropriately to different situations, and develop the muscle memory needed for smooth, controlled riding. We also address common challenges riders face, from overcoming nervousness to correcting posture issues that can hinder progress.

Located at 15 Jalan Keli, our facility provides a safe, well-maintained space for lessons. We maintain small class sizes to ensure personalized attention, and our scheduling accommodates various commitments. Sessions run Monday through Friday from 9:00 to 18:00, with Saturday availability from 10:00 to 14:00. This flexibility allows you to maintain consistent practice, which is crucial for skill development.

Beyond basic instruction, we help riders understand horse care, equipment maintenance, and stable management. This broader knowledge creates more confident, capable riders who can handle various situations. Our goal is to develop riders who not only perform well but also understand the reasoning behind each technique and can make informed decisions in the saddle.

Understanding Your Horse's Body Language

Horses communicate through subtle movements and postures. Recognizing ear positions, tail swishes, and weight shifts helps riders respond appropriately during training sessions. This awareness builds trust between horse and rider, creating a foundation for effective instruction. Understanding these signals reduces miscommunication and improves safety in the arena.

About Gejero

Building confident riders through proven methods and genuine partnership with horses

Equestrian coaching at Gejero

Our Story

Gejero began in 2015 when Sarah Chen returned to Singapore after completing advanced equestrian certifications in Europe. With 12 years of riding experience across dressage, show jumping, and cross-country disciplines, she recognized a gap in the local riding community. Many riders struggled to progress beyond basic skills, not due to lack of dedication, but because they lacked access to structured, personalized instruction rooted in classical horsemanship principles.

Starting with three students and partnering with established equestrian facilities in Bukit Timah, the coaching practice grew steadily. Within two years, the student base expanded to 28 regular riders ranging from complete beginners to intermediate competitors. What set this approach apart was the emphasis on understanding equine psychology and biomechanics rather than simply learning patterns and movements.

By 2018, Gejero had trained five students who successfully competed at national level events. The coaching expanded to include specialized programs for different riding styles and age groups, from children starting at age 7 to adults discovering their passion for horses later in life.

Our Mission

We develop riders who communicate effectively with horses through proper technique, timing, and feel. Each lesson focuses on building fundamental skills that create lasting results, whether the goal is recreational riding, competitive success, or simply enjoying time with horses.

Our Vision

To establish a community of educated riders in Singapore who prioritize horse welfare, continue learning throughout their riding journey, and pass on sound horsemanship practices to future generations. We aim to raise the standard of recreational and competitive riding through accessible, quality instruction.

📍 Sentosa
The lessons are structured and the horses are healthy. I appreciate the focus on fundamentals. However, I expected more variety in training exercises after the first two months. The price point is reasonable for Singapore, though additional costs for competitions weren't clearly outlined initially. Still, it's a solid option for learning proper riding technique.

📍 Ang Mo Kio
I was struggling with jumping technique at my previous stable. The instructor here identified specific issues with my position and timing within the first lesson. Over three months, we worked systematically on each element. I recently completed my first 1.2m course cleanly. The feedback is direct and actionable, which I appreciate as someone who learns best with clear technical guidance.

📍 Bedok
Decent lessons that cover the basics well. The instructor is experienced and safety-conscious. I would have liked more personalized attention during group sessions, as sometimes the focus is on other students. The facility is clean and the horses are calm, which is important for beginners like me.

Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about riding lessons, training programs, and what to expect when you start your journey with us.

For your initial session, wear comfortable trousers without inner seams that could cause discomfort. Long pants protect your legs from friction against the saddle. Closed-toe shoes with a small heel (about 2-3 cm) are necessary to prevent your foot from slipping through the stirrup. Avoid sneakers with thick soles.

A fitted top allows freedom of movement without excess fabric. If you have long hair, tie it back securely. We provide safety helmets that meet international standards. After a few sessions, you may want to invest in proper riding boots and a helmet of your own for better fit and comfort.

Most students develop foundational skills within 8-12 weekly sessions. This includes mounting and dismounting safely, maintaining balance at walk and trot, basic steering, and understanding how to communicate with the horse. However, progress varies significantly based on individual fitness, coordination, and how frequently you practice.

Students who attend twice weekly typically advance faster than those with weekly sessions. Previous experience with balance sports like cycling or skiing can also help. Remember that riding is a lifelong learning process - even experienced riders continue developing their technique and understanding of horses.

We work with riders from age 6 onwards, with no upper age limit. Children from 6-12 years benefit from specially designed programs using calm ponies and horses suited to their size and strength. These sessions focus on building confidence, coordination, and a positive relationship with horses.

Adults of any age can start riding. We have students in their 50s, 60s, and beyond who successfully learn and enjoy riding. A basic level of mobility is helpful, but we can adapt lessons to accommodate different fitness levels. Before starting, we recommend a brief health consultation, especially if you have back or joint concerns.

We prioritize understanding over repetition. Each lesson includes explanation of why certain techniques work, not just how to perform them. This builds independent riders who can think through challenges rather than simply following commands. Our small group sizes (maximum 4 students) ensure individual attention during each session.

We also emphasize horse welfare and partnership. Students learn to read horse body language, understand their needs, and develop empathy alongside technical skills. This creates more confident riders who can adapt to different horses and situations. Progress is tracked through a structured curriculum with clear milestones, giving you tangible goals to work towards.

Not at all. Most students use our trained lesson horses, which are selected for their calm temperament and reliability. These horses are experienced in teaching and know their job well, making them ideal for learning. Using different horses throughout your training also helps you become a more adaptable rider.

If you do own a horse or plan to purchase one, we offer specialized sessions to help you work with your own animal. This includes addressing specific behavioral issues, developing your partnership, and training for particular disciplines. Many students start with lesson horses and later transition to ownership once they understand the commitment involved.

Our covered arena allows lessons to continue during light rain. However, during heavy thunderstorms or extreme weather that could pose safety risks, we reschedule sessions at no additional charge. Singapore's tropical climate means we occasionally experience sudden downpours, so we maintain flexible booking policies.

For outdoor trail sessions, we monitor weather forecasts closely and contact you in advance if conditions look unfavorable. Rescheduled lessons can be taken within the same month or added to your next package. We also offer theory sessions during extreme weather, covering topics like horse care, anatomy, and training principles.

Yes, we offer trial lessons at S$95 for 45 minutes. This introductory session includes a facility tour, safety briefing, basic horse handling instruction, and time in the saddle with direct coaching. It gives you a realistic sense of what lessons involve and whether riding suits you.

During the trial, we assess your goals, fitness level, and any concerns you might have. This helps us recommend the most appropriate program if you decide to continue. The trial lesson fee can be credited toward a package purchased within two weeks, making it a risk-free way to explore riding.

Safety protocols are integrated into every aspect of our program. All riders wear ASTM-certified helmets, and beginners use horses specifically trained for teaching. Our arena has proper footing to reduce slip risks, and we maintain equipment to manufacturer standards with regular inspections.

Each session begins with a safety review covering mounting, emergency dismounts, and proper position. We teach riders to recognize signs of horse discomfort or anxiety and respond appropriately. Staff members hold current first aid certification, and we maintain comprehensive insurance coverage. Class sizes are limited to ensure adequate supervision and immediate assistance if needed.
